Arcata Reflections: Culture Shock, Resilience, & the Power of Community

Join Equity Arcata and the Cal Poly Humboldt Cultural Centers for a screening of the short film "Unsolved Hate," which sheds light on the diverse experiences of students of color at Cal Poly Humboldt. Following the film, equity arcata will lead a discussion aimed at addressing questions from incoming students about fostering community both on and off campus. The conversation will also highlight recent initiatives aimed at creating a safer and more equitable environment for people of color in Arcata. Food will be provided.

Skate Night

Get ready to roll at Skate Night! Lace up your skates or check out a pair and join fellow students for an evening of fun, music, and laughter on the rink. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, Skate Night promises an exciting opportunity to glide into the university experience and connect with new friends in a lively atmosphere.

Transfer Student Orientation Hike

Embark on an unforgettable adventure with our Transfer Student Orientation Hike at Cal Poly Humboldt! Connect with fellow transfer students as you explore the breathtaking natural beauty of our campus surroundings. Enjoy scenic views, fresh air, and camaraderie while forging new friendships and creating lasting memories. Participants will meet on campus. Food from Backwood Burritos will be provided for the first 150 students.

Open Boat House

Meet the Rowing Team, check out the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center (921 Waterfront Dr, Eureka, CA 95501), and learn to use the Rowing Machine with the NCAA D2 Cal Poly Humboldt Women's and Men's Rowing Crew Team! Talk to the team and coaches to see what it takes (you do not have to know how to row!). You will get a tour of the rowing facilities and the boathouse where Outdoor Adventures rentals are conducted. We will also teach you to row on rowing machines and have some fun competition!

A bus will bring students fromarry Griffith Hall to the Humbodlt Bay Aquatic Center every 30 minuties, but you are welcome to drive yourself.

Big Lagoon Kayak Tour

Join us for a fun-in-the-sun day on Big Lagoon! In this paddle outing, we will be kayaking around the country's biggest coastal lagoon system. We'll see wildlife, learn basic paddle strokes, and bond together for a wonderful flat-water paddle.Our guides are equipped to give you loads of historical, cultural, and ecological interpretation knowledge of some of the most unique aspects of Humboldt County.

No experience? No worries! Trained guides will provide students and guests with all the necessary equipment and basic skills needed.

Program Fee Includes: high quality on-land and on-water flat water kayak instruction, hard gear (kayak and paddle), soft gear (PFD, wetsuit, booties, splash jacket), and lots of interpretive information.
